🚨 ANOTHER Labour Defence Minister resigns. He has clearly lost confidence in Keir Starmer’s ability to defend our nation. Just like John Healey did. Labour are imploding, and time is up for Keir Starmer.
We owe those who serve the UK the kit to do the job and the loyalty to stand by them when it's done. We are failing on both. I’ve spent my whole time in government making that case. Number 10 will not listen, so I am resigning as Minister for the Armed Forces. Letter to the PM below.πŸ«‘πŸ«‘πŸ«‘β¬‡οΈβ¬‡οΈ

🚨 The Peter Murrell scandal shows how the SNP is riddled with scandal and chaos. We deserve answers. Was public money involved? How could such huge sums disappear without the party leader noticing? We need a full, independent investigation into this scandal.

John Healey, the former Defence Secretary, has acted honourably by resigning. Keir Starmer is too weak to cut welfare and fund defence - as I told him yesterday at PMQs. Only the Conservatives have a plan to put our national security first.

🚨 John Healey is absolutely scathing in his resignation letter to Keir Starmer. πŸ‘‡ β€œYou have been unable, and the Treasury has been unwilling, to commit the resources that the nation needs to defend the country at this time of rising threats.” Defending our country is the first duty of any government. Labour is simply not taking the current threats seriously. John Healey says he is β€˜certain’ that a target for spending 3% of GDP on defence in 2030 is needed but the settlement falls β€˜well short of what is required for defence and the country at this dangerous time’. It is no surprise that he has resigned. He knows Starmer’s time as Prime Minister is up.

It's National Carers Week. Unpaid carers do outstanding work, but they are so often the unsung heroes of our communities. It is so important that we recognise the challenges they face and the contribution they make to families and communities across the Borders and throughout the UK. Thank you to every carer for all that you do. In Parliament today, I showed my support for Carers Week and the vital role carers play supporting families and our communities.

πŸ₯ Accessing NHS treatment across the border should not be complicated. Many local residents – particularly in Berwickshire and the eastern Borders – are registered with GP surgeries in Northumberland. Some have told me that their medical records are not being properly shared between services in Scotland and England. That is simply not good enough. I raised this issue with the UK Government Health Minister and urged her to work with the Scottish Government to fix it. I am pleased that she has agreed to meet with me, and I look forward to discussing the matter further as soon as possible. For our communities, the border is simply a line on a map. We need a joined-up healthcare system that works for patients. I also believe people should be able to access NHS services in England if that is their preference, particularly when those services are closer to home. Sadly, the SNP have so far refused to agree to reciprocal healthcare arrangements. I will keep fighting to ensure patients can access the care they need, where they need it.

🚨 Immigration remains far too high. We need tough reforms to fix our immigration system once and for all. That’s why we need a legally binding cap on the number of people who can come to Britain each year. πŸ‘‡

⏺️SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT John Lamont (@John2Win) corrects several widely-spun myths: it wasn't a handful of Peers but over 140 who opposed the assisted suicide Bill, and opponents included leading medical & legal experts, and those representing vulnerable groups.

We don’t make laws by opinion poll. Parliament did its job by properly scrutinising the Assisted Dying Bill. If laws were rushed through simply because they were popular, so many would pass without proper consideration of the real-world consequences. πŸ‘‡

πŸš¨πŸš’ The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will meet on 22 June to decide the future of Hawick Fire Station. My view is clear - it must remain a 24/7 service. Downgrading our fire station would be a grave mistake and could put people's safety at risk. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service must do the right thing and retain the existing level of service at Hawick Fire Station.

βœ‰οΈ I’ve signed a letter to the Chief Executive of Lloyds Banking Group calling on them to restore cheque deposit services at Post Offices and Banking Hubs. Many people across the Borders still rely on cheques, and it is vital that they can deposit them easily. More than 100 MPs have signed the letter, and I hope Lloyds will listen to our concerns. πŸ‘‡ I will keep fighting for better banking services for people across the Borders.

πŸš‚ We need better public transport right across the Borders. It’s something I’m constantly campaigning for. It was good to meet with Barrie Forrest and Tom Thorburn from the Rail Action Group, East of Scotland (RAGES), alongside @Rachael2Win, to discuss issues with public transport connections at Reston Station. We need proper investment to deliver more reliable transport connections across the Borders.
