π₯ Accessing NHS treatment across the border should not be complicated.
Many local residents β particularly in Berwickshire and the eastern Borders β are registered with GP surgeries in Northumberland. Some have told me that their medical records are not being properly shared between services in Scotland and England.
That is simply not good enough.
I raised this issue with the UK Government Health Minister and urged her to work with the Scottish Government to fix it. I am pleased that she has agreed to meet with me, and I look forward to discussing the matter further as soon as possible.
For our communities, the border is simply a line on a map. We need a joined-up healthcare system that works for patients. I also believe people should be able to access NHS services in England if that is their preference, particularly when those services are closer to home. Sadly, the SNP have so far refused to agree to reciprocal healthcare arrangements.
I will keep fighting to ensure patients can access the care they need, where they need it.
