DO NOT JOIN CROWDHEALTH...unless you are ok with our CEO texting, and then calling, to check in on you after a tough surgery. We have gotten to know this beautiful family as life has put them through the wringer. Really hard, but beautiful, birth story followed by dad being diagnosed with a brain tumor. The personal connection with our members, especially during their hard times, is our calling...and the Crowd has stepped up to fund this family's really difficult journey. Fellow Crowdies, we hope you feel loved. We aren't perfect so if for some reason you don't, DM Andy on our telegram* chat and we'll make it right. *if you are a Crowd member and not on Telegram, check your monthly 5 email for the invite or DM us the email you use for Crowd and we'll send you an invite.

It's not. The goal is to create urgency and fear so you'll pay before you ask questions or negotiate.

This often isn't a sign of strength. It's a sign they've run out of leverage. They want you to think they hold the strongest hand at the table. In fact, they hold the weakest.

Mark is wrong about us being wrong. We are PRO transparency. However, the CURRENT SYSTEM makes transparency almost completely useless. The theory Mark has is that you have a high deductible then you’ll shop because it hits your wallet. Here are the problems with this: 1️⃣ 80% of US healthcare costs are chronic. They will bust the deductible. Therefore they don’t care about price. 2️⃣ Any major procedure (the ones that move the healthcare cost needle) are above the deductible and so they don’t care. 3️⃣ If you go to the ER in an ambulance you aren’t shopping on the way. 4️⃣ Even if you did want to shop the hospital “transparency” files often times don’t include the cost of the doctor so you can’t come up with a true cost anyways. So that leaves you with meds, labs, imaging, and preventative procedures that shouldn’t be procured at a hospital anyways. Conclusion: transparency is great if you have a system in place that incentivizes people to actually care about the price. ***Mark will come back and say that employers will waive the deductible if the patient shops. It’s a great idea but the penetration of these types of services from what have heard from primary sources are in the low single digits.
This isn't accurate. Most people have deductibles, anda higher out of pocket max. During the deductible phase, you absolutely pay out of pocket and should be able to price shop, and count against your deductible the best price you can find. Where the shopping analogy falls apart is AFTER you hit your deductible and OOP max. Then you can spend other people's money on your care. Distorting the entire market

We’ve said it once, we’ll say it again. You don’t compare prices for healthcare because, in the vast majority of cases, you aren’t the one paying for it. If you don’t have to pay for it who cares what the prices are. What would happen to prices at the grocery store if shoppers were paying with someone else’s credit card?
We compare prices for gas, flights, and home repairs. Healthcare shouldn’t be the one exception. Patients deserve clear, upfront pricing so they can make informed decisions and keep more money in their pockets. That's exactly what my Patients Deserve Price Tags Act will do.

The Biggest Little Farm followed us on IG yesterday (trailer below...worth the watch). EEEEEEK!!! A few years ago, our CEO watched this movie and was inspired. A couple looked at a broken system and dared to believe there was a better way. While the world was moving toward bigger, more industrial, more complicated agriculture, they moved in the opposite direction. They trusted nature. They trusted people. They trusted that healthy ecosystems could solve problems that massive institutions couldn't. Most people thought they were crazy. That sounds familiar. Today, their farm is thriving. At CrowdHealth, we've always felt a kinship with their story. Healthcare, like farming, has become increasingly centralized, complex, and disconnected from the people it was created to serve. We've been told that skyrocketing costs, opaque pricing, endless bureaucracy, and middlemen are simply the price of modern healthcare. We don't believe that. Just as Apricot Lane Farms set out to regenerate the land, we're trying to regenerate healthcare creating a system built on community, transparency, and human connection. It isn't easy. There are pests in farming and there are entrenched interests in healthcare. There are setbacks, skeptics, and days when the mountain feels impossibly steep. But stories like The Biggest Little Farm remind us that meaningful change almost always starts with a handful of people willing to challenge the status quo. So when we saw that they followed us on IG, we may have had a small fanboy moment. 😊 Thank you for showing the world what's possible when people stop asking, "How has it always been done?" and start asking, "What if there was a better way?" Here's to healthier farms. And healthier healthcare.
