Investigators with the SFPD's Traffic Collision Investigation Unit (TCIU) have ID'd and arrested the suspect involved in the hit-and-run between a vehicle and a scooter at Haight and Lyon Streets. The incident occurred on Oct 3, 2025, at 9:50 PM. The suspect has been ID'd as 21-year-old Fatima Zahra Kabira Ghaleb, of San Francisco. Read more: bit.ly/3IFA1xr

From the day I took office, I told San Franciscans my number one priority was keeping our streets safe and clean. I was hearing from residents across the city for years that they were concerned about crime and felt that the city was caught flat-footed by the fentanyl crisis. As soon as I became mayor, we took a new approach.   We created the @SFPD Hospitality Zone Task Force to keep our commercial districts safe and launched our Rebuilding the Ranks plan to get our police department back to full staffing. We passed a Fentanyl State of Emergency Ordinance and launched our Breaking the Cycle plan to fundamentally transform our response to the behavioral health crisis and get people off the street.   Today, crime is down nearly 30% citywide and at its lowest point in decades. Car break-ins are at 22-year lows, and homicides are on track to hit 70-year lows. We are adding police officers and sheriff’s deputies for the first time in a decade. We have a record low number of encampments on our streets, and overdose deaths are down 39% from January. We can keep San Francisco safe, and our new approach is beginning to deliver real results.   Thanks to the work our teams are doing, San Franciscans are feeling optimistic about the direction of our city and the conditions on our streets for the first time in years. I know our work is far from done—I see it every day when I walk the streets and talk to residents. But our local law enforcement, outreach workers, community ambassadors, and I will continue to be relentless so we can deliver the safe and clean streets that every San Franciscan deserves.

Members of the SFPD Violence Reduction Team (VRT) arrested an attempted homicide suspect and seized a firearm, magazines, and unfired cartridges. The suspect, 37-year-old Jesus Romero of Oakland, CA, has been booked on numerous charges. 🔗 bit.ly/4gWjwK1

Six dirt bikes and an ATV were seized, and four arrests were made this past Sunday during a crackdown on dangerous stunt driving and other illegal activity in San Francisco. Utilizing our latest technology, like drones and ALPRs, this objective was accomplished while emphasizing the safety of all parties, including officers, dirt bike riders, and the public at large.
