Former Thunder Bay police chief Sylvie Hauth will stand trial tomorrow. In "Thunder Bay" on Crave, we showed you how TBay police, mired in systemic racism scandal, investigated their own Anishinaabe board chair. This is that story from the inside. ricochet.media/indigenous/ho…

Congratulations to my boss @EthanCoxMtl for winning CAJ scoop of the year. I’m not in the room tonight but I’m very honoured that he chose to share that moment with me. The reaction has been touching in the 30 hours since @ricochet_en ran this story. ricochet.media/media/thunder…

Here’s my speech after winning Gold in the scoop category at the CAJ awards tonight. I dedicated it to @JonSThompson, facing retaliation from @tbpsmedia for award-winning reporting on police misconduct, as well as the fearless @GitxsanJt, indomitable @dreahouston & my parents.

Great news in Ontario!⚡️ 🔋Battery storage projects won all 640 MW of @IESO_Tweets latest capacity contracts, beating out gas at some of the lowest prices in recent procurements. Every project is 50% Indigenous-owned. news.ontario.ca/en/release/1…

It really means a lot @DPAwards. There’s deep discomfort in Northern Ontario to discuss current events in terms other than perfect, or to speak of anything but “working with our community partners” with any semblance of accountability. You’re telling them we’re for real. Thanks.
Wooohooo! Ricochet wins big at the @DPAwards, taking home editorial achievement of the year (Andrea Houston) & best local news coverage (Jon Thompson). These awards are a testament to crucial work that often goes unnoticed. Take a moment and read all about it! ricochet.media/media/ricoche…

We’re fighting on whether Doug Ford works hard versus whether he spends too few days making new laws? It’s the new deal on majority governments, Ontario. These guys run their legislative agenda, cut every opening for opposition or conversation, then go to the lake. Fight on that.
I don’t recall the Star particularly supportive of the marathon sittings in our first term. All summer, the entire fall, over Christmas. During the pandemic - daily cabinet meetings some as long as 10 hours. You simply cannot question Doug Ford’s horsepower and penchant for work.

If the Prime Minister isn’t heeding the advice of Indigenous caucus members we are in for some rough roads ahead. There is an Indigenous staffing gap in PMO, a high number of files with real consequences for Indigenous peoples and strong shifts in public opinion. Buckle up!

Thanks so much to DPAs for standing behind the Work. Thanks @dreahouston and @EthanCoxMtl at Ricochet for your patience. And to the Northwest, first, last, and always. I live to bear witness and your trust means everything: more than ever.
Congratulations to @JonSThompson on his big win at today’s Digital Publishing Awards in the Best News Coverage (Community/local) category! Jon won for his body of work. A beat covering an area larger than most European countries, and featuring stories no one else is telling. ❤️

It’s wrong when Doug Ford does it. It’s wrong if Mark Carney does it. This new consensus that the public doesn’t get to know how our leaders communicate anymore is wrong. It’s wrong and it has to be stopped. canada.ca/en/treasury-board-…
NEW: The Carney government is considering changes to the Access to Information Act, which governs access to government records. One proposal would limit requests to “official records” stored in official repositories, while excluding “transitory records.” canada.ca/en/treasury-board-…

I really hate to say this. While repaving the existing Main Street in Geraldton is arguably needed, it would be a stretch to call it a significant infrastructure advancement or frame it as though it was a road to the proposed Ring of Fire. northernontariobusiness.com/…
