The Jefferson County Board of School Commissioners just UNANIMOUSLY passed a resolution OPPOSING Governor Lee’s proposed voucher scheme. They recognize that the so-called “Education Freedom Scholarship Act of 2025” is TOTALLY irresponsible.

The Jefferson County Schools Central Office Team had a great time visiting schools this week to show our appreciation to the amazing educators throughout each of our campuses! Thank you for sharing some time (and a couple of donuts) with us. You truly are amazing and appreciated!

Take the time out this week to thank a teacher. Everyone has that special someone who ignited their spark for learning! Happy Teacher Appreciation Week.      jc-tn.net/news/community-new…

A new fourth grade promotion gateway has passed. I’m thankful for that. However, almost all TN 3rd and 4th grade students and teachers spent last week worrying over the ramifications of the assessment. I’m glad we have supports in place, but we need the rules before the EOY.

Criterion-referenced data is the most effective way to measure grade-level proficiency. Other, less precise metrics can mask gaps in learning. Learn more about why @educationgadfly: bit.ly/48OYnLQ

This can’t be said loud enough… Tutoring can fill gaps, but it shouldn’t be the front line solution.
Learning to read by 3rd grade has just been named as a priority in the SOTU. My critique? The path towards said goal was identified as "high-quality tutoring and summer school." Why not high-quality, core Tier 1 instruction during the regular school year??

Replying to @MCS_Director
@MCS_Director well done today, sir! Vouchers are a "poison pill" that we don't want and #ALEC is buying! Know that a reckoning is coming and the dark money folks will be impossible to find. There's a mess to clean up in Nashville! #Conservative? This ain't it! @tosstn1975

In Mrs. Lawrence’s 6th grade Biotic CTE class at MMS, students explored the field of agriculture to see if their skills and interests match careers in agriculture. jc-tn.net/news/new-page/~boa… #JCcore4 #CultureofExcellence

Under difficult circumstances the @SBEd_TN fought hard for a Gateway 1 appeal for third grade promotion. This provides additional opportunities for students on grade level to be promoted to the next grade without the additional burden of demonstrating "adequate growth." 1/4

However, their effort doesn't fix this broken policy. The complexity of this process CANNOT be understood by the layman. We are two years into this process and it remains foggy at best. In my 20 years of working with students I have 2/4

never felt so conflicted about what policy is doing to students. I applaud the effort of our teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, etc. for the work they do to ensure students are supported from the pick up to the drop off. 3/4

Lundberg... "Parents are Outsiders" Think about this... The Literacy Success Act took retention decisions out of the hands of parents and school staff. Where is parent choice there? Where does that responsibility push parents, students, and schools?

Listening to the current Senate hearing and thinking back to last night's hearing... If norm referenced assessments are quality assessments, why are we so dead set on criterion referenced? Our local level assessments provide actionable data and responses throughout the year. 1/3

Again, how do we criticize one while allowing flexibility for others? How do we claim our standards are the law, but allow state dollars to go other directions. Seems the Gov.'s office is claiming the sequence of learning is different. Have they ever looked at different 2/3
