It’s 100 years this week since Gunnersbury was officially opened as a public park. From 1879 to 1917 it was owned by Leopold de Rothschild, which he inherited from his father Lionel. Some connections to Brentford FC – - Lionel Road was named after Gunnersbury’s owner

- Leopold was an early patron/president of BFC - 1903 BFC changed shirt colours from the original Claret & Blue to Blue & Gold, to reflect Leopold’s racing colours - In pre-season 1937 afternoon training was varied every day, including miniature golf & bowls at Gunnersbury Park

- Prior to 1957 the Brentford Youth Team used to play their matches at Gunnersbury Urban myths dispelled: - Salmon was not a Rowing Club colour nor in the original BFC kit - Leopold de Rothschild was not a Lord - Walter Rothschild did not own/live at Gunnersbury

So, 40 points was enough for PL safety. Brentford reached that number in game 26, the 1-1 draw with Arsenal (H) on 12 February. Achieved more points than the bottom 2 clubs before Christmas.
