JRA Director and Conservation Architect, Miriam Kelly, recently lead a tour of Glebe Cottages for the annual gathering of Conservation Officers from English and Welsh National Parks. They were interested to engage with the project and understand the ongoing careful salvage work.

After a serious fire destroyed a terrace of four thatched cottages in Dartmoor National Park, we have been working with the National Trust to develop plans for their conservation and reconstruction. Interpretation boards give context for the extensive works taking place.

While undertaking the quinquennial inspection at Grade I listed Holy Trinity Church in the heart of Drewsteignton, we captured drone footage of the ongoing work at Grade II listed Glebe cottages currently undergoing reconstruction and conservation, seen under a roofed scaffold.

This Grade II listed farmhouse was tired, but the client could see its potential to become a picturesque retreat. Working with the conservation officer, the project team enjoyed the challenge of incorporating modern services whilst maintaining the historic integrity of the house.

We restored part of an old services wing in an early 19th Century Regency dwelling to provide additional bedrooms. Access was required to the previously boarded-up second floor, so we designed a new butler’s stair using authentic joinery details that complement the main staircase
