Iowa St Aggressive No-Middle Defense | Iowa St finished 2023-2024 #1 in @kenpomeroy Def Efficiency (87.5) & #2 in TO%. Pros of their No-Middle System: - Disruption: Takes the Offense out of their stuff and forces turnovers. - Limits paint touches. #1 key to a successful defense - Has a clear system for where to force the ball handler, who is the help & who rotates Keys to a successful Aggressive No Middle Defense: - Closeout angles. Have to force baseline on closeout - Goalie meeting the ball handler early & outside the paint. Iowa St likes to trap this to create turnovers - Crackback is key! Have to take away the drop off player - Rotation guy takes 1st pass, Crackback guy ideally takes 2nd pass - PNR Defense - 2 on the ball to force disruption & turnovers. Key = Loading to take away easy Roll passes - Post Defense - Force Baseline to the Goalie. Early trap to disrupt
