Now my thoughts: from day 1, I tell my trainees my expectation is for a national presentation and a manuscript. If ahead of schedule, I tend to have them write manuscript and submit later in the year (July/Aug) so they can still get the experience of IDWeek

Thank you @bryan_p_white! I completely agree. While @IDWeekmtg is a fantastic meeting, not having a completed manuscript will be what gives me heartburn as a mentor. I’ve had a couple trainees finish project early, but only one where we held it for a while b4 submission

I like the write and publish now. Doing a poster is a good experience, but there is a decent amount of time spent fomatting and polishing it. Depending on the project, it could go to the SHEA spring meeting.

#IDResearchChallenges 🥼🧫🧬👨‍🔬👩‍🔬Week 7- An idea 💡 Case: When you have a new idea for a research project and don’t have a particular mentee in mind…. Most respondents would reach out to training programs to find perspective mentees. My thoughts below ⬇️ #IDTwitter

Generally, ✅Add to list: second half of year to prepare for incoming residents, fellows ✅Start project: Only a few times for projects I can’t wait for ✅Reach out to leadership: Early in year once all my mentees have projects

Thanks @lichenlady94! An option not mentioned is having colleagues recommend a trainee for project or to co-lead a project with another colleague! Always great to work with a diverse team and get multiple perspectives on a project

I think that this is always a perfect opportunity to have collaborations!
