❌ Lost a speaking gig? Here’s what to do next… At TYS, our team has booked 5,307 gigs for the speakers we represent. But what about the ones that didn’t happen? When a client says no, we ask three key questions: youthspeakeru.com/event-plan…

❤️ this was an absolute HONOR. As a School Leader, you may not work with students every day — but you architect the system that ensures every student has One Caring Adult who does.
Speaker Josh Shipp, author of the national bestseller, "The Grown-Up's Guide to Teenage Humans,” shares the power that one caring adult can have on the life of a child this morning at #KSBA25.

Tyler Merritt’s new book, This Changes Everything, is an incredible read. As his friend & lit agent, I’ve had the privilege of seeing Tyler pour his heart and soul into this book. It’s a deeply human mix of humor, heartbreak, and hope. @TTMProject amzn.to/3Wgpg8a

As a speaking agent, I’ve booked 5,307 gigs for the speakers we represent. When someone decides NOT to book one of our speakers, I ask them THREE simple questions to extract actionable intel to be better positioned next time: Q1. What was your #1 deciding factor? CONTEXT: Interestingly, 33.2% of our respondents say topic relevance was their primary reason—only 9.7% cite budget. This proves my theory that event planners aren't risking their money, they are risking their reputation. Q2. Please be brutally honest: why did you choose not to book {Speaker Name}? CONTEXT: This question often reveals gaps in marketing clarity. For example, an event planner might say, "We were looking for a speaker on X." But our speaker DOES speak on X. This means work must be done on topic clarity, speech titles, or learning outcomes. Q3. How far in advance do you start looking for speakers when planning an event? CONTEXT: This question lets us know when to circle back for future events. When we follow up, we lead with EVIDENCE showing we’ve addressed any concerns raised in question #2. As they say, you either win or you learn.

🧠 DECISION MAKING: Hats, Haircuts, Tattoos. Discern the Difference. I think about decisions in three ways: hats, haircuts, and tattoos. Most decisions are like hats. Try one, and if you don’t like it, put it back and try another. The cost of a mistake is low, so move quickly and try a bunch of hats. Some decisions are like haircuts. You can fix a bad one, but it won’t be quick, and you might feel foolish for a while. That said, don't be scared of a bad haircut. Trying something new is usually a risk worth taking. If it doesn't work out, by this time next year, you will have moved on, and so will everyone else. A few decisions are like tattoos. Once you make them, you have to live with them. Some mistakes are irreversible. Maybe you'll move on for a moment, but then you'll glance in the mirror and be reminded of that choice all over again. Even years later, the decision leaves a mark. When you're dealing with an irreversible choice, move slowly and think carefully. —@JamesClear, author of "Atomic Habits"

Are you really a parent if, at some point during the next 48 hours, you don't threaten to return your kids's Christmas gifts? 🤣

Our words matter. The ones we choose to use and the ones we choose to leave out. The medium in which we share them. The tone with which they’re shared. Anytime and anywhere words are used, they have an impact. They matter. Consider @TTMProject and his experience of becoming a viral media sensation by sharing a single page’s worth of thoughtfully considered words. These words he made up a couple of hours before recording them on free video-recording software late one night at a friend’s house. Words he then uploaded to YouTube at 2 a.m. to share with a few friends and family members. Words he discovered (when he woke up a few hours later) had been heard by over a million people. Then 20 million. And now more than 100 million and counting. One page worth of words led to interviews with all the big news outlets, retweets, and shares by A-list celebrities, appearances on late-night talk shows, a landmark book deal, and a positive, measurable impact on culture during a particularly challenging time in American history. In other words (see what we did there?), Tyler Merritt knows the power of words chosen wisely.
