At 11:15am this morning, firefighters from Green Watch were called to a vehicle on fire at the bottom of Mont Cochon in St Lawrence. While it was an EV, there is no evidence that the high-voltage electric battery, which replaces a fuel-powered car’s engine, was involved.

The fire was concentrated under the bonnet and was quickly extinguished. Following the usual checks, the vehicle was handed over to recovery agents and the road was reopened.

💡 A few ways to stay safe: 1. Always stay nearby when using your tumble dryer or other appliances. 2. Switch off and unplug when you're finished. 3. Regularly clean the lint filter and vents to reduce fire risk. 4. Check for recalls on your appliances and keep them maintained.

At approximately 6:40am this morning, firefighters were called to Grouville Bay to rescue 14 cows from in the water. The cows appear to have walked along the beach and, when their safe exit was cut off by the high tide, they swam out to sea. 📸 Courtesy of Jon Guegan at @JEPnews

Some of the animals had been blown by the wind and were approximately 300m offshore.  Firefighters mobilised the Inshore Rescue Boat and worked with the RNLI crews from St Catherine’s to fasten ropes around the cows’ necks to tow them into shore at Le Hurel.

Last night, we joined @GovJsyIE in the Tunnel, to carry out a smoke test. This test allowed us to see, in person, what a fire in the tunnel would look like. The exercise reinforced our risk information and helps ensure that we are well prepared, should an incident occur.
