For 10 years, I wasn't Julius. I was a collection of exit strategies and fake injuries. I lost who I am. Not because I suddenly changed. But because anxiety made me believe it. People pleasing. Avoiding socializing. Avoiding anything that might trigger anxiety.

I could not imagine working completely out of the office 1 year ago. I thought I needed 2 days minimum working remote where I dont have to keep it together. Now, 100% in the office again. Work with the right people and you wont feel like you "have to keep it together".

June 2021. 9:14pm. The worst panic attack I ever felt. So bad even jumping out the window suddenly sounded like a good idea. I did what I always did. Tried to breathe through it. Fought it like an enemy. What I didn't know: fighting the symptom was the thing keeping it alive.

The ALARM method doesn't stop panic attacks. It stops the second panic attack. The one you create by panicking about the panic. That's the cycle. That's where the trap actually lives.

I still use it. Not because I'm anxious anymore. Because it taught me something bigger: your body will do things you didn't authorize. Responding without fear is a skill you can build. Five steps. That's it.

Stop trying to survive the whole event. Just handle the next 15 minutes. Get ready. Walk to the car. Drive there. Each step comes with permission to stop. You probably won't use the exit. But knowing you can is what makes starting possible.

I used to think my anxiety was all in my head. Then I learned my body was the one keeping me hostage. If you felt anxious often enough over some time period, your nervous system gets stuck. The smallest things kick you over the edge - sounds familiar?

This is not your psychology. This is your biology. Your nervous system is highly sensitive. Just like your skin would be if you constantly scratch. You need to let it heal. It is in your body. That is what is keeping you stuck.

If every "Hey, do you have time for a quick chat" turns into "I am getting fired" - you have a serious nervous system problem.

Genuine preferences feel peaceful. Fear-decisions feel like relief. You cancel and suddenly you can breathe again. That relief is the giveaway. You're not relieved you made a good choice. You're relieved you escaped a threat that was never real.

You don't become brave then act. You act, and through acting you become someone who can. Confidence shows up after you move, not before. I still feel afraid sometimes. I just stopped waiting for it to leave.

I spent years trying to think my way out of anxiety. Meanwhile my body was stuck in fight-or-flight. Shallow breathing spikes CO2 in your blood. That triggers the panic button in your brain. You can't outthink a physiological state. Breathe first. Think second.

For years I believed I was weak. Too small. Too afraid. That was the person anxiety told me I was. 2024 I drove to Paris for the Olympics. I didn't fix myself. There was nothing broken to fix. I just stopped letting an old story make my decisions.
