i completely agree with you. i don’t understand why people expect him to roll out his debut the same way everyone else does when he’s made it clear from the start that authenticity matters more to him than manufactured images or branding.
both he and his label have emphasized that this music is about him like his experiences, his perspective, & his genuine love for music. it’s not about playing a character or fitting into some fictional universe.
honestly, in a k-pop landscape that feels increasingly saturated with short-form, tiktok-driven songs, i think there’s room for music that actually stays with you. the kind that makes you feel something, feeds your soul, & leaves you wanting more long after it ends. that’s the feeling i get from his music!
whether people agree or not, i think he’s taking a different path, & that’s exactly why i’m excited for this debut. if he succeeds, he could inspire a shift toward more artist-driven music at a time when many fans feel k-pop is becoming increasingly formulaic!
I’ve been thinking a lot about Evan’s promotion and I think that a lot of people are misunderstanding what he’s trying to do. He’s not “doing everything by himself because there’s a lack of resources”
My theory is that his entire concept is the deconstruction of a K-pop idol. 🧵
