The SNP “win because they’re Scottish, not because they’re good.” Watch @akmaciver on @HolyroodSources on why Scottish Labour would fare better as a separate party. (And why social democrats would want Scotland to remain in a redistributive & dynamic union of solidarity.)
The SNP can be unpopular in government and still win elections. Why? Because many voters are answering a different question entirely: who speaks for Scotland? Is taking on independence the key to convincing voters? @CalumAM @akmaciver @geoffaberdein #Scotland #Politics #SNP #Holyrood #ScottishPolitics

We’re definitely open to a name change if that’s what the party chooses.* @AlistairPhilpot suggests ‘Solidarity’. Any other suggestions? *(Although we’re aiming to appeal to a broad church by focussing the aims tightly on becoming a party just for Scotland.)
Replying to @JustForScotland
Would suggest that if Scottish Labour separates it should change it's name otherwise it will still be associated with UK Labour. Solidarity would be a good alternative name.

Scotland’s NHS, roads & railways, schools & hospitals are too important for us to continue as before. We must break the link between the electoral fortunes of the UK & Scottish parties. The conversation is starting. Come & join it, whatever your views. labourlist.org/2026/06/scott…

Brian Wilson, former MP & Minister under Blair: "Scottish Labour should act decisively upon the central lesson learned and for which I have long argued. It is to become an autonomous party which is not constantly bound by the constraints of dual identity."

We agree with these words from 2020: "Scottish Labour’s long-term losing streak will continue unless we make epic changes. [...] ScotLab must stand or fall by its own decisions. We continue at the mercy of the UK party's distant structures or become a party in our own right."

.@murdo_fraser was almost right in 2011. We’ve tweaked his quote: “There’s a lot of interest in [centre-left] values among people in Scotland but they don't vote [Scottish Labour].” We need “a new progressive centre-[left] party with Scottish identity.” bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-1…
It’ll never catch on 😉

We believe in the union, in devolution, and in Scotland. None of these are in conflict. Plenty other countries have similar arrangements. We must be confident in our beliefs and arguments: unionism is entirely compatible with passion for devolution. thenational.scot/news/261744…
