The hardest players to coach aren't the ones who struggle. It's the ones who struggle and think they already know why.

I’ve always said the best time to pick to first is after the guy hits for the cycle.
Stood up to take a picture of PCA on first after he hit for the cycle and got a perfect shot of him getting picked off on accident

I've played professional baseball. I've coached collegiate baseball. I've evaluated thousands of high school players over the last 12 years. Here are a few baseball truths I've learned: • Failure is inevitable. How you respond to it is a choice. • The game rewards resilience far more than talent gives it credit for. • Body language is visibly LOUD. • You never know who's watching. • Talent gets you noticed. Consistency gets you recruited. • Nobody cares how good you were last week. • The players who blame others rarely improve. • Confidence comes from preparation, not motivation. • The game owes you nothing. • Coaches trust competitors before they trust tools. • Your teammates know if you're real. • Baseball has a funny way of exposing excuses. • The best players are usually obsessed with improvement, not attention. • Nobody remembers your excuses. They remember your actions. Build your floor. Chase your ceiling. ⚾️

Hitting is complicated. Instruction should vary but remain simple. The light switch is different for everyone. After 2 weeks of work, I asked each kid name two things that they think has helped them at the plate. From second grade to freshman. 4 kids.. 8 different responses. Some being the same concept worded differently. Always question cookie cutter instruction or philosophy.

It doesn’t get easier. It doesn't. The challenges just change shape. 🔴▪️🔻🔸 You run a marathon. You get through the suck. You push through exhaustion. And your threshold for pain rises. 🛗 That threshold is the best predictor of your future success. Because hard most of the time equals production. The goal isn't to eliminate hard. The goal is to become the type of person who can handle hard better. Every difficult conversation, early morning workout, setback, disappointment, and failure is a repetition. Each one serves you. Each one expands your capacity. Not because the obstacle shrinks, but because YOU grow. 🍄 Success rarely belongs to those with the easiest path. It belongs to those who have trained themselves to carry heavier loads. Hard doesn't get easier. You just handle hard better.. And now you can do more hard. More hard = more production. So embrace hard.

USA. A breakfast counter. The waitress recommended the biscuits and gravy, and when the plate arrived, I thought something had gone wrong in the kitchen. I say this with shame. The dish looked like a construction site after rain. Pale mounds. Gray ladle-fall. Speckles I could not identify. In my land, the eye eats first. A meal is arranged like a garden. This meal was arranged like weather. "Is it… finished?" I asked, carefully. "Honey, that's what it looks like." The man beside me was already eating his. He did not look up. "Just try it." I am a man who has charged hillsides at dawn. I raised the fork. I tried it. I must now formally apologize to the biscuits, the gravy, the waitress, the kitchen, and the entire breakfast tradition of the American South. It was magnificent. Warm. Peppered. The biscuit drank the gravy the way a field drinks rain — THAT is why it is shaped like that, you fool — and every mound I had insulted was a soft fold of comfort that my homeland, in eight hundred years, never once thought to invent. "Well?" the waitress asked. "I judged it," I confessed. "By its appearance. I am ashamed." "Everybody does, hon." Everybody does. A national dish that forgives you for doubting it. It expects the doubt. It waits for you on the other side of it. Do not judge the gravy by its face. Judge yourself, for hesitating. I order it every Saturday now. I no longer see the construction site. I see only the garden. It was a garden the whole time. The eye must be trained.

Said a mouthful.
To win the clubhouse, sometimes you have to lose the “best” player. Coaching is hard!

A whole thread 🧵 here
Is it really that fun to spend a majority of the weekends of summer & fall away from your home? I’ve been to East Cobb & Lake Point… trust me it’s not a destination. Trust me I get it & I understand the purpose of what is going on but many have fallen for fools gold…

Opponents who are afraid to lose are the easiest to beat. The most dangerous opponents are the ones that have no fear of losing.
