This wasn’t in a movie but I always liked the picture of Reagan talking with a little girl about Dragons of Winter Night.

BLOOD ON THE SAND by @KaceyEzell1 (Hardcover) – Explosive Sequel in a New Series of Romance Adventure Fantasy IN HER DARKEST HOUR, AELYS CHOSE FREEDOM . . . BUT CHOICES HAVE CONSEQUENCES. Bellatrix Aelys turned her back on the family that betrayed her and chose to forge her own destiny alongside the dangerous men she had accidentally bound. Now free, Romik, Vil, and Daen make the uneasy choice to continue to work with Aelys as her protectors and business partners. But when Aelys faced off against her family, she didn’t eliminate every threat, and now mysterious forces are moving against her once more. Fearing for her safety and that of her men, Aelys agrees to do a simple task for her old teacher: escort some old “friends” to Zandrine, one of the fabled cities located in the south of the empire. Only, not everything is as it seems. Zandrine is a city built on secrets and blood and pain. Aelys and her protectors will have to face the demons of the past and the dark schemes of the present, all while trying to figure out who they are to one another and how the four of them— warrior, sorceress, forester, and thief—can meld their strengths to keep each other alive. Can Aelys, Romik, Vil, and Daen make the necessary hard choices that will forge them into a team capable of surviving these new challenges? Or will the pain of the past and the danger of the present destroy them one by one? baen.com/blood-on-the-sand.h… /3

This morning neither FOX nor CNN have *any* front page publicity on the moon launch. Just endless masturbation about Trump and Iran. I get it we can't recapture the magic of true firsts. This is a repeat of Apollo 8. But come on, people. What has happened to your souls?

Right? At the very least, Tolkien could have included someone who willingly dies for his friends and comes back to life, or maybe a king who takes his place on the throne to bring peace and prosperity, or someone born in obscurity who bears the weight of the world.

"Star Trek was always woke!" No, no it wasn't. People will point out the dudes in dresses at the beginning of TNG, but remember those were axed in short order. The heroines in Trek were fully fleshed out human beings with flaws and virtues, not mere shallow power fantasies. Their romances were pretty bog standard hetero stuff. Starfleet officers, male and female, all looked as if they could pass height and weight in a modern military. Body positivity is not a virtue for an organization that has responsibility to conduct wars for the polity it serves, even when its officers claim, occasionally, that it's not a military organization. As far as LGBTQ representation, Dax kissing another woman was a Big Deal, and it was only one episode of DS9 that didn't evolve into an ongoing, impactful relationship. "Well, Star Trek was always progressive for its day!" A stronger argument. It definitely was. I guess progressives used to be better writers who were a bit more in touch with what would and wouldn't breach verisimilitude for a show about astronauts on some kind of star trek. Maybe rather than bitching at everyone else--get good, scrubs.

Dave is one of the smartest guys in the industry, and if you love to nerd out about fantasy and science fiction books, I can assure you with a high degree of confidence that this will be worth your time.
I've had a project in the works for a bit now. Today I'm launching a new YouTube channel. The channel is High Low Brow. Its name comes from literary critic William Morris, who used the term to describe *my* fiction (I'm not saying he coined the term for me, I'm saying this is where I first heard it). It means popular art that low brow in form, e.g. genre fiction, but contains elevating elements. I've heard Neal Stephenson describe novels in this space as rollicking adventure tales that also contain big ideas. So on High Low Brow, I'll be talking about the books, music, TV shows, graphic novels, and visual art that I like. I'll interview people who make that art and people who like. High Low Brow. Because culture matters, and I also want to have fun. (links in the replies)

Ladyhawke. Yes, the soundtrack is distracting at best, and godawful frequently, but it's still a fantastic watch.

I pursue my career to support my family. That is not to say I don't find meaning in being good at my job and being good to the people I work with, but C.S. Lewis was right, work is a supporting effort, the family is the main effort.

Brad's right. Corollary--know your own mission. Quality women want men who are driven by something more, not desperate simps. Until you know what your mission is, I wouldn't even bother trying to find true love--which I absolutely believe in. You ain't gotta be a Green Beret or an Astronaut, but you've got to stand for something.
Brospace opinion: the young bromaxxing dudes need to be careful about waiting too long to close escrow. Marriage and fatherhood remain the final bosses of adulting—your proof of citizenship in the future; that you've exited the tourist sphere. If you dawdle waiting on Mrs. Perfect, she will never come. Because you will never be anyone's Mr. Perfect. Find a girl who wants the same 2 or 3 Big Things (caps-b, caps-t) in life, and launch. Press the big red 'GO' button. Then commit yourselves to full engines until you're on orbit. No take-backs. No reservations. No ejection seats. If you're lucky? She's a 6. Maybe even a 7. But the truth is a 5 is an 11 if she smiles and laughs a lot, and delights in being with you. Whether it's in the yard, in the kitchen, in the garage, or in the bedroom.
