This is what happens when a presenter at #ALAAC24 drops a great pun - you have to create! Thanks Margaret McGuire for the inspiration!

Inspired by K.C. Boyd’s student posters, we’re highlighting what some of our staff read over the summer with these signs (and corresponding displays). And then we’re going to make posters of any interested students and staff through the year.

I’m definitely a visual thinker. Thank goodness that @Marriott had extra sticky notes. Trying to plan for Saturday #ALAAC23

I’m heading to my first #ALAAC23 as part of the 2023 class of Emerging Leaders. Can’t wait to hang with @veal_brandi & β€œmeet” all the wonderful library staff I follow here! I saw β€œmeet” because I’ll probably recognize you, but I am too shy to just go up to you & start talking.

I am so grateful that our thespians asked us to play small roles in their production of High School Musical. Having the chance to see students do the things that they are passionate about is one of the best perks of working with youth! This photo was taken by one of our teachers.

My cat and my dog are the strangest friends. I wonder what they are both thinking during this exchange.

I do read multiple books, but I don’t have them for a specific times/places. I choose which one to read depending on how I am feeling. As for keeping the characters and plots straight, I’m usually never reading books of the same genre or by the same author at the same time.
Anyone else read multiple books at once, but reads each book at specific times/places? Like, one book for bedtime. One book for waiting (for kids to finish extracurriculars, appointments). One book for the bathroom. And so on?

Last year, a colleague documented April in a series of haiku. Inspired by her, I am journaling 2023 with a daily haiku. It is difficult and beautiful and creatively engaging.

I’ve decided to journal in haiku for 2023. My inspiration for this wrote me a haiku as a response when I told her and she nailed it when she wrote β€œpressure’s on to minimize”. But I’m loving the creativity it requires and having to pay attention to the little moments.

There’s underused open wall space on our circulation desk, so my tech and I decided to post our yearly reads (by month) so patrons can see them. Here’s mine through December. I can’t wait to post them next week and hopefully have lots of book talks!

For 2022, I set a large goal for total books read. Every time I checked my reading challenge on Goodreads, I felt a mix of elation (when I was ahead of where I should be in order to meet the goal) and dread (when I was behind).

For 2023, my first goal is 5 books. When I reach that goal, I will change it to 10 books. And I’ll keep increasing it by five when I reach each goal. There is no total books read goal for 2023, just five books at a time so I can keep reading and enjoying what I read.

Yes!!!! Vigorous circulation happens when a culture of reading is encouraged, supported, & modeled by all staff. As a credentialed Librarian, I cultivate a well-stocked school library and promote reading and books, but vigorous circulation takes all of us.

Well-stocked libraries are good. Vigorous circulation of books is even better.
