In their new Forefront article, Katherine Miller, Josephine Jacobs, Courtney H. Van Houtven, @KDecosimo, Nadya Majette, Timothy Jobin, Anushka Pai, and Megan Shepherd-Banigan from @VeteransHealth and @DukeMargolis discuss how the national Caregiver Support Program implemented in the Veterans Affairs more than a decade ago offers a roadmap for health care systems nationwide. healthaffairs.org/do/10.1377…
So grateful to be able to work with these wonderful @DurhamADAPT colleagues to advance Veteran & family caregiver research, led by the fearless @chvanhoutven
Kasey Decosimo from Durham VA. iHI-FIVES CG skills training program decreases number of "not at home" days (e.g. due to ED/hospital/SNF visits). Intervention is now being deployed in all VAs. #BBPgh24
Looking forward to seeing how this study can lead to the development & refinement of implementation tools to support dissemination of this #VAcaregiver training program
The #ARM23 sessions are great but so are the opportunities for face-to-face time spent with colleagues at the end of the day - including this esteemed crew with expertise in long term care, geriatrics, implementation, & caregiving @DurhamADAPT@vahsrd
Outstanding session on scaling caregiver support program - great example of partnered research helping scale a developing VA priority. Great mix of panelists: PI, Implementation Expert, Project Manager and Partner. #ARM23
Grab some great Seattle coffee & hear the story of how we developed & implemented a caregiver intervention from single site RCT to VA-wide adoption! #ARM23 session: Sunday 6/25 8-9:30am room 613-614 (Level 6) @academyhealth@vahsrd#Function_QUERI#QUERI@DurhamADAPT
Jo Jacobs & team found that Black Veterans develop functional limitations at earlier ages & experience faster functional decline. Health systems need to track Veterans’ function earlier to ensure Black Veterans are able to get timely access to services.

Finished this👌paper by @JessicaMaMD@chvanhoutven et al that outlines a process for identifying family caregivers in electronic health records. Agree w/ their conclusion: it's doable but costly, instead, let's build a #caregiver field in #EHR systems. Representation matters!
New in @jmirpub: Researchers were able to identify the presence of unpaid caregivers for approximately 60% of veterans who completed a phone screening using an EHR approach. More research is needed to increase the efficiency of caregiver identification.
