The World Accreditation Day 2026 commemoration is ongoing at Weston Hotel, Nairobi, with stakeholders from government, industry, and conformity assessment bodies gathered to reflect on the role of accreditation in strengthening national quality infrastructure and supporting economic transformation under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). The Principal Secretary, State Department of Industry, represented both the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, and the Chief Guest, the Head of Public Service.
In remarks on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary, it was emphasized that accreditation is a strategic pillar for Kenya’s industrialization and trade competitiveness agenda. It enables global acceptance of Kenyan exports, strengthens regulatory credibility, enhances investor confidence, and supports integration into regional and global value chains. Priority sectors such as manufacturing, agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, textiles, renewable energy, and the digital economy were highlighted as dependent on credible and internationally recognized quality assurance systems.
Ongoing reforms within the Ministry were outlined, including increased reliance on accredited conformity assessment bodies, alignment of technical regulations with international standards, strengthening of trade and standards legislation, digitization of trade processes, and enhancement of the Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS) legal framework, including provisions towards mandatory accreditation.
In the keynote address on behalf of the Head of Public Service, accreditation was reaffirmed as a key enabler of BETA, supporting agriculture, MSMEs, manufacturing, healthcare, housing, and the digital economy through improved trust, quality, and performance. Public sector reforms on results-based management, performance contracting, digital transformation, and service delivery were highlighted, with accreditation positioned as a governance tool that enhances transparency, accountability, and evidence-based decision-making.
The Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Kenya’s national quality infrastructure, enhancing institutional coordination, and promoting adoption of accredited systems across MDAs. Assessors were recognized as critical to maintaining competence and credibility within the system.
The Chief Guest officially declared the World Accreditation Day 2026 celebrations open.
