The phocid behaviour book in @SpringerNature's marine mammal ethology series that I contributed to is now out! Huge thanks to editors Liz McHuron & Dan Costa. I wrote about reproductive traits, cannot wait to read the whole thing. @_SMRU_ @SchoolofBiology link.springer.com/book/10.10…

We are devastated about the passing of SMRU legend Dr Bernie McConnell. He had been with SMRU 40 years and served as both deputy director and head of @SMRU_Instrument. He was life and soul of every meeting and party, and will be hugely missed. Our thoughts are with his loved ones

We are very happy to share our paper in @ScienceAdvances investigating how populations adapted to novel environments. For this, we studied repeated adaptation of bottlenose dolphins from pelagic to coastal habitat across their range using whole genomes: science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…

Disturbing seals can result in pups becoming separated from mothers and abandoned. Don't get too close, avoid sudden movements and be quiet when watching them. Full guidance on watching marine life here 👇ow.ly/2p0Z50FUY41 #RespectProtectEnjoy #MakeSpaceForNature

The grey seal pup season is now underway on the Isle of May, with almost 2,500 born each year between from Oct-Dec. If you see seals and pups please keep a safe distance, avoid disturbance and ensure they are not stressed as mothers can abandon pups if frightened off.
