Just emerged out of court to find a lot of press about my River Roding jury oath, which seems to have captured a lot of people’s imaginations. I’m very much hoping it serves as a precedent for others who hold Nature in these islands to be sacred to express their beliefs within our legal system. The oath also garnered an amused observation from the judge in the case. After the jury I was on had delivered a verdict in our case, His Honour Judge Falk said to the Jury, in a wry tone: “You tried this case faithfully according to the evidence, as you took an oath to do [pause] whether on a river or otherwise”
