Still better than a drought!

This tick madness is about to make me put on a tin foil hat. Worked in pastures 2 days. I’ve pulled more ticks out in 2 days than I have for 2 years…up to 11 and that doesn’t count unattached ones. Anyone else seeing this? The world gets weirder by the day. #ticks

Maybe we can no longer grow corn in the east because the drain tile promotes nitrate pollution in rivers and the Gulf. See I can do it too.
Maybe we can no longer afford to grow $4 corn in the west ?? In case you missed the biggest news that was lost to the circus that is our government, the USGS has released data showing that America's underground aquifer storing water is officially drying up. Spanning approximately 174,000 square miles across eight states from South Dakota to Texas, the Ogallala Aquifer (High Plains Aquifer) is the lifeblood of American agriculture, providing roughly 30% of all groundwater used for U.S. irrigation. However, the aquifer faces an existential crisis as massive agricultural extraction severely outpaces natural replenishment from rainfall. In some heavily farmed regions like the Texas High Plains, water levels have plunged by up to 80 meters (262 feet), leaving parts of the reservoir entirely depleted and threatening the long-term viability of the region's farming communities. The consequences of this groundwater collapse extend far beyond localized dry wells. The Ogallala sustains a massive $35 billion agricultural economy, and as the water table drops, farmers are hit with skyrocketing extraction costs and dwindling crop yields. This critical situation is not isolated; California’s Central Valley Aquifer, another vital agricultural engine, is suffering from similar severe, long-term depletion. Without aggressive water management and a shift toward sustainable farming practices, the depletion of these non-renewable resources risks destabilizing the nation's food supply and transforming once-fertile plains back into arid dust bowls. source: USGS

The food vs fuel debate was big, but the food/fuel/AI/data center debate, is huge in land/water. Water rights and land will be sold, Lake Mead is low, Denver is draining a lake, and Ogalalla gets hit harder. Water wars are here. I thought I’d be bald before they started.

So, your industry has adopted something called a “shape file” as your standard format? Yes, Dave. But 3 files are actually needed to make it work and be usable? Yes, that is correct.

Cattle question. We need to put in a tub to work/load cattle. I looked at several models, everything turns counterclockwise when viewed from the back. Do cattle go that way naturally? If so I’ll rethink it. Clockwise fits space better. #Cattle #ranch

My retirement dream, I want to live where I can’t hear a snapping electric fencer or a straight piped irrigation motor. The use of both wakes me up all hours of the night currently.

Warren trying to explain why she lied and her application. Well it’s bs. Never forget this person lied and thought we wouldn’t find out.

This motley crew of aged misfits needs 4 more good days and they can be cleaned up. My 76 year old uncle is tired, as well as the 40 year old nephew. We party like it’s 1995! Corn yields like 2024! #harvest2024

I’m a rebel. Spraying with the rows planted by waas, following the rows with a tractor with duals while auto steering on waas, posting beans that probably don’t need it because of a #covercrop, and doing it with a $3500 sprayer and Agco tractor. Somebody count the fails!

Wasn’t #residue a buzzword on Twitter here awhile back. Rye turnips and radishes were innerseeded in Sept., grazed into the ground, and beans are being installed today. I should have some residue for a while. I hope the water the rye used doesn’t burn me too bad. #plant24

This grain sorghum did not understand the assignment. I have corn 1/4 mile away that made grain and will be ok, but this was a total flop. I’m done cutting milo on September 16. That’s a record for us!

It’s impressive the amount of dryland corn being harvested in NCK. It’s also sadly impressive how few people have a grain cart being used. I’ve seen more trucks and combines in the field without a cart than I have seen with one. Speaks volumes to how poor our corn really is.

I must have not paid the AMS subscription, and John Deere downgraded me from an X9 500 to this bare bones /9 500. I’ll see if there’s a performance difference later today. #wheat #harvest
