For a rapidly growing capital like Nairobi, time is of the essence. To confront the City's perennial gridlock and traffic snarls, the Government continues to roll out strategic infrastructure interventions, among them the Kenyatta Avenue Viaduct, a flagship project by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).
Designed to link Valley Road directly to the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), the viaduct will streamline traffic flow by lifting through-traffic above congested intersections, significantly easing movement into the city core.
Construction is steadily advancing, with key civil works already visible. Reinforced concrete piers and substructures are in place along the corridor, while superstructure works are progressing, particularly around the NHIF Building, where sections of the deck have already been elevated.
The project runs along Kenyatta Avenue, stretching from the Integrity Centre to the Serena Hotel, marking a critical urban mobility corridor.
The viaduct features an elevated dual carriageway of approximately one kilometre, complemented by integrated cycle lanes and pedestrian walkways to support non-motorized transport.
Modern drainage systems are also being incorporated to address urban flooding challenges, enhancing the resilience and sustainability of the City's infrastructure.
The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration plays a key role in ensuring road safety, traffic management and security compliance during and after implementation, helping transform the viaduct into a safe and orderly urban asset. ๐ ๐ข๐ฅ๐ ๐ฃ๐๐๐ฆ - shorturl.at/rymPQ
As part of the ongoing elevation of critical infrastructure in Nairobi to match its stature as a Capital City, the Junction Mall Flyover, also known as the Ngong RoadโNaivasha Road overpass, is nearing completion.
Located at the busy intersection of Ngong Road, Naivasha Road and Kingara Road, right next to The Junction Mall, the project is designed to unlock one of the City's most persistent traffic bottlenecks.
Currently in the final stages of construction, key finishing works are underway, including the installation of guard rails, street lighting and other critical safety features. The contractor is progressing with structural and ancillary works, with completion expected within the next two months.
Unlike older flyovers in the City, this overpass features a modern architectural design with aesthetic steel deck girders supported by distinctive V-shaped piers. It also integrates Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) infrastructure, including cycle lanes, pedestrian walkways and improved urban lighting, ensuring both functionality and inclusivity.
The flyover is expected to significantly ease congestion, cutting travel time from Ngong Town to the CBD from hours to approximately 25 minutes and restoring efficiency along this vital corridor.
The project also demonstrates coordinated efforts with the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration, particularly in enhancing road safety through improved traffic management, safer pedestrian infrastructure and better enforcement frameworks along this high-traffic junction. ๐ ๐ข๐ฅ๐ ๐ฃ๐๐๐ฆ - shorturl.at/7VkbA
