It's okay. I promise. Write the chapters in the order that makes the most sense for your productivity.

We've hit the frantic point in the semester. Now can be a great time to get developmental editing on your manuscript (the project keeps moving forward while you focus on other tasks). If you want to work with me, reach out. I have limited availability (~2 projects) for May/June.

A number of authors in my circle have recently taken on significant personal responsibilities, adjusting to a new baby or caring for aging relatives. In today's TEA Delivered, I reflect on what it means to keep writing when your world feels upside down. open.substack.com/pub/theedi…

Academic Authors Spring Break PSA It's okay to spend spring break resting in addition to, or instead of, writing. The manuscript will get done. Prioritize your health (mental & physical) bc if you crash then no writing (or any of the more important things in your life) gets done.

🧵This morning I recorded a podcast for my book, "Building Schools, Making Doctors." It came out three years ago, & when I talk about it now, the only things I want to talk about are the big-picture ideas that I struggled to articulate when I was proposing & writing it. (1/3)

All to say, when you are deep in the research, it is really hard to see the "forest for the trees." At least half of my authors are working on stepping back from the details of the research to articulate the larger arguments and conversations for their project. (2/3)

I'm planning an issue of TEA Delivered that will offer suggestions for seeing the big picture while you are writing. In the meanwhile, know that you are not alone if you are facing this challenge. And if you have any tips to share in the comments, please do! (3/3)

I recently reviewed an article for an academic journal. It reminded me that not everyone understands the difference between developmental editing & peer review, each of which serves a separate function in the evolution of a manuscript. Learn more here: open.substack.com/pub/theedi…

I recently launched two community-focused offerings (theeditorialally.com/communi…), designed to support authors in these hard times. I couldn't have rolled out the services as quickly or as well without web designer @FreshWebDesign1. Hiring an expert really can make life a lot easier!

🧵A disconnect exists right now at many higher ed institutions. Faculty are stretched incredibly thin. They are supporting (understandably) distraught students, concerned about what to do if ICE appears on campus, facing funding cuts for their research, & more. Meanwhile, (1/3)

tenure clocks are ticking, and administrators continue to expect "standard" levels of productivity. I don't have answers, but I want to help. The Editorial Ally is rolling out new services that meet writers where they are. Many authors I know have informal writing groups (2/3)
