I think the issue isn’t that they aren’t proletariat but that they don’t consider themselves as such. They may even outright say “I’m part of the proletariat” but their positioning of themselves in discourse reveals that they distinguish themselves from the “lower classes”.

I don’t agree with the point but I support it because the backlash it got highlights more about the outlook of the middle classes into class politics than most. It is so unthinkable for some of these guys to live in any sort of chosen discomfort it hinders them from politics.
