The final research chapter of my PhD is published! 🥳🥳🥳🥳 It shows how the ability of spider venom to paralyse prey scales isometrically with its ability to cause prey mortality! Open access in Toxicon: X. Check it out via the following link -sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

The implications of this finding are that it suggests historically available LD50 or median lethal dose values can function as proxies for PD50 of median paralysis dose values to gauge general venom potency in spiders, provided the venom was tested in the same prey model!

Congratulations to our very own University of Galway zoologist, founder of the Venom Lab and creator of The Bug Doctor series, Dr @Michel_Dugon who has been named Galway Science Person of the Year! Dr Dugon has spent more than 14 years inspiring children and students across Galway schools and beyond with his live workshops on bugs, spiders and snakes, as well as through his important ongoing scientific research. Spider webs come in a range of forms, with some spider webs being used for many years and others being rebuilt each day. The latter often eat their old webs as they dismantle them, but why? discoverwildlife.com/animal-…

Latest publication from the Dugon Venom Systems Lab: A review exploring the occurence of envenoming-led infections, suggesting that we need to study the microbiome of venomous organisms a lot more closely if we want to improve post-envenoming care. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

I recently had the pleasure of presenting my research at University of Galway’s Zoology Colloquium 2025! This was a great opportunity to present the work I've done since the launch of the Urban Fox Survey, which has been a very successful project thanks to everyone's support! 🦊

FUCK YEAH FUCK TRUMP In response to Trump’s cuts to science research funding and attacks on universities, the EU is investing over $500 million to recruit researchers and scientists from the U.S.
