It's been a while since I created the original version of this, so I updated it for 2026-27. Note: these are the current projections for the Cap, Tax, Aprons and Exceptions. Hope this helps people understand the various spending levels and restrictions with each. Send feedback!

I don't expect any mega moves for the Rockets this summer, but they still have a lot of work to do. How they handle new deals for Eason, VanVleet and Thompson will set the tone for next season and beyond. Read more about Houston's summer ⬇️
Next up in my Offseason Preview Series for @spotrac are the Houston Rockets! 🏀Re-signing, re-tooling and extending 🏀A new contract for Tari Eason 🏀Re-working FVV's deal could create needed wiggle room 🏀Extending Amen Thompson is a MUST Read more: spotrac.com/news/_/id/3390/h…

What a crazy, unexpected NBA season this was. I love basketball. Even when it's not great, it's still better than anything else. Thanks as always for reading, watching, listening, following and engaging. Now, it's time for me to get to work! The offseason has officially started!

Mitchell Robinson! That's why he's going to get PAID this summer. An absolute monster on the glass.

I don't want to have a whole ref conversation, but you can't miss that landing zone foul. That was really bad officiating.

Going off my list, Pavle Backo is the last Early Entry Candidate we are waiting for news on with the draft. The deadline to withdraw was at 5 PM ET today, but the NBA won't provide the final list of eligible players until tomorrow, at the earliest. Possible I may have missed Backo news too.

Yes. TPEs, the NTMLE and BAE count against the cap, if the combined amount of them keeps you over the cap. Let's say your salaries add up to $30M under the cap, but you have a $20M TPE and the $15M NTMLE, you would be over the cap unless you renounced the TPE and NTMLE. In the Grizzlies case, they can create about $17M or so in cap space, but having the $28.8M JJJ TPE and the $15M NTMLE are likely viewed as better than the additional $2M in spending power.

I'm not sure why this is coming up (got four questions in the last 20 minutes), but the Memphis Grizzlies do not project to have cap space this offseason. Because they have the large TPE from the Jaren Jackson Jr. trade, Memphis projects to stay over the cap this summer. If they went space, it would be barely more than the NTMLE would be. This is obviously without shedding significant money via trades.
