Most movies end when the story is over. THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING (2003) had one final goodbye left. “Into the West” arrives after the journey is done and somehow carries the weight of an entire trilogy. No wonder it won the Oscar.

"The Last Goodbye" is a song written and performed by Scottish actor and musician Billy Boyd, serving as the official end-credits theme for the 2014 film The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. 🎙️
Boyd, who famously portrayed the hobbit Peregrin "Pippin" Took in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, was specifically invited by director Peter Jackson to co-write and sing the piece. The song acts as a poignant emotional farewell not just to The Hobbit trilogy, but to the entire cinematic journey of Peter Jackson's Middle-earth film franchise.
