3 graduations at 3 high schools in @RPS535 today. Every student whose hand I shook filled me with optimism about the future. Thanks to Maya Giron of the @PB_News for these and other amazing pictures of the day.
Fantastic article on the great feedback that we have received from the Rochester Student School Board. It has made a major difference on many issues. postbulletin.com/news/local/…
Data was released today that shows big declines in student achievement in reading and math in the U.S. since 2015. That long-term trend has unfortunately been true in Rochester Public Schools as well, but it's encouraging that since 2021 we have begun turning the tide in @RPS535.

My daughter Victoria Pekel realizes that her awesome theater teacher from high school, Emily Gill, is among the people waiting to see her at the stage door after her performance in @SuffsMusical in Minneapolis. The power of teachers to change lives is so awesome.
Saw Bob Dylan for the first time tonight in Rochester. The instrumentation was unbelievable, at moments seriously funky and at other moments unbelievably lyrical. After a couple songs, his unique voice became just another instrument in the amazing mix. I’m so proud to be from MN.
The water was COLD but it was worth it to raise $$$ for the Unified program that brings students with disabilities together with general education students at Century High School yesterday!
This week I had the wonderful opportunity to narrate the classic symphonic piece Peter and the Wolf with the Rochester Symphony for all of the 4th and 5th graders in our school district. Here are a few glimpses of that awesome experience.
Culture night at Mayo High School. So proud to see our students celebrating the cultures of their families while they also embrace being citizens of our community in Rochester and the United States.

Now, Moss was the one who knocked on the door to tell him he was going into the Hall of Fame.
Pretty freaking cool.
Just spent a fantastic hour with 3 students who recently came to the U.S. from Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, and Somalia. They are fantastic young men and our schools and our society are better because they are here.
