Why do modern desktop and gaming motherboards, even flagship models, include so few PCI Express slots? It’s even common to see more M.2 slots than PCIe slots these days! In this article I work through the righteous anger and explain the mindset shift. kerricklong.com/articles/pci…

I just started up @PlayAvengers (PC) for the first time, clicked the big flashing "Play Now" button on the home screen, and then was given what appears to be a HUGE SPOILER MONTAGE recapping the campaign I was hoping to play. What the heck?
I was really excited to use @Stripe Atlas after years of hearing @patio11 talk about it, but after four weeks (!!) of back-and-forth with their support staff resulting in an inability to attach a list of prior inventions to the founding documents, I've soured on the experience.

#JavaScript code style poll! Vote, and reply telling why you voted that way. // Option A return bool ? { foo, bar, baz } : { bar, baz } // Versus // Option B return { ...(bool ? { foo } : {}), bar, baz, }
100% Option A
0% Option B

This #JWST hold music is going to be just as nostalgic in 20 years as the Windows XP setup music is today.
When I was in school I truly wanted to be a pilot as my career. That came to a quick halt when I realized that scholarships, grants, and loans weren't available for pilot training. The only options were to pay cash I didn't have, or join the military. npr.org/2022/07/01/110899592…

Even if loans had been available, training cost ~2x tuition at the state university I went to (with a full ride!) would for the full four-year degree. Plus, the salary for commercial pilots doesn't beat software engineering. (But both have an ageism problem!)
I've been working with the @NotionAPI the past few days. Given what I've seen, I would bet @NotionHQ's Engineering team has a line of #TypeScript like this in their codebase: type HasTypeAndPropertyValue<T extends string, K> = { [key in T]: K } & { type: T }

Feeding information into black holes be like:
// #JavaScript snippet -- terrible or great? class ThingHaver { get uniqueThings() { const found = {}; return this.things.filter(thing => (found[thing.uid] = !found[thing.uid])); } }

In 1960 the USD had 10x today’s purchasing power. We need to modernize our printed/minted money. Delete a decimal point from the US Dollar. Prices, bank accounts, etc. change. Eliminate 1¢, 5¢, and 25¢ coins. Keep 10¢, 50¢, and $1 coins. Create $5 coin. Remove paper $1, $2, $5.

Whose faces would go on the new stuff? Who’s gonna be upset about faces taken away from removed stuff? What metal alloys should be used to make sure it’s a cost savings, and should the power to make that choice be delegated to the Mint or kept by the Congress?

Does any of this even matter since so many transactions are digital now? Or does it matter MORE because it puts an undue burden on business to adapt to one decimal place across their computer systems, signage, and more? Shouldn’t all this effort be used on more important topics?
Which do you think will be better for video photo editing (not export)? The M2 Ultra Mac Studio, or a new PC built on X670 Extreme with DDR5 RAM, the best launch Ryzen 7000 CPU and an RTX 4090? Wild speculation is welcomed, since we have so few details on either option!
40% M2 Ultra Mac Studio
60% PC: X670E DDR5 R7000 4090

If it helps you wildly speculate, I'm talking about using Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, and DaVinci Resolve Studio (including Fusion!) with the outputs of the Sony ⍺1: 50MP raw photos and either 8K@30 or 4K@120 XAVC (H.265).
