Yeah sorry but 48 teams at the World Cup is great. I appreciate jeopardy is almost non-existent atm, but romanticism is a big part of the World Cup mystique, so having space for Curacao and Cape Verde is class.
Plus Europe having a smaller % of all the teams is a good thing too.

Cape Verde centre back Roberto 'Pico' Lopes has spent his entire career in Ireland, ignored a LinkedIn message from Cape Verde FA asking him to play for them because it was in Portuguese. A year later, they sent it in English. He accepted. An all-time great World Cup story.

Can't help but feel pride watching Roberto Lopes playing here. Which is odd given he's representing a different country. Puts the whole debate of sporting national representation in a different light.

I'm usually not one for liking players playing for Ireland that might not have strong connections (when we need to ask them to play for us). So it's certainly interesting to be challenged about how and why you feel something about national identity.
