That's not how these conversations go and they know it.
THERE IS *ONE* THING IN WHICH Steam Charts are the worst thing to ever happen: Games Journalism.
Because piece of shit outlets like his looooove to weave fake narratives about games. They LOVE to be the ones in control over what a game's performance and popularity looks like.
It gave 'em power, status and access. And now that they burned their bridges with players and nobody trusts jackshit that they put out, they're seething even more over the fact that ANY ONE, regardless of if they're a Journalist, a Dev or a random guy, can just open up a Steam Charts window and personally check on how a game is doing.
We can open up a fuckin' window and see a game they gave a 9/10 to, FAILING in real-time.
We can open a window and see games they called "A RETURN TO FORM" and a "SUCCESS" flopping before their parent companies even announce the failure themselves (Veilguard)
We can open a window and see games THEY SHAT ON, called the developers of INCELS over the protagonist's character design, *WINNING* in real-time. (Stellar Blade)
My boy we can open up a goddamn window and watch IGN seethe in real time as a game their soyboys-in-chief hated, LIED about, and told (on their personal social medias) to boycott or PIRATE -- get ONE OF THE HIGHEST concurrent player counts we've ever seen. (Black Myth Wukong)
It's no wonder these people keep advocating for that to be removed and they will keep adding pressure to Steam over it. They will partner up with studios and publishers who keep putting out garbage and are pro-censorship to tighten the screws on it.
And I'll say it right now, if they're ever successful, it's only going to make everything worse. Every bit of 'hate', 'distaste', 'rejection', etc that they - outlets like IGN and garbage publishers - THINK they feel already feel, is only going to double the more they focus their efforts on CENSORSHIP instead of MAKING GOOD GAMES that their playerbases actually want.
Oh and in the case of games journalists - do some fuckin games journalism, fire their karen and soyboy activists and get back to embracing the culture they're part of - make fun content again, and prioritize honesty over access in their reviews.
Steam charts are one of the worst thing to ever happen to video game discourse. Imagine talking about music and being like “oh you like so-and-so band, that’s cute. Too bad they suck compared to Backstreet Boys. See how low they are on the billboard chart in comparison”
