Forty years after its release, the iconic basketball film Hoosiers is still bringing fans together.
Hundreds of people packed the VIP Theatre in Mattoon on Saturday to celebrate the movie’s 40th anniversary with a special screening and appearance by screenwriter Angelo Pizzo. Fans had the chance to hear behind-the-scenes stories from the man who brought the beloved underdog tale to life and ask questions about one of the most celebrated sports movies ever made.
The event also featured a pair of famous vehicles from the film, including the team bus used by Hickory High and the car driven by Gene Hackman’s character, Coach Norman Dale, giving fans a unique opportunity to see a piece of movie history up close.
