This Louis Vuitton box came in with the keys stuck inside. However, the mechanism was just latched shut, rather than locked. We were able to show the customer who brought it in the sneaky button that slides sideways to retract the latch and retrieved the keys inside.

In our industry, this is what we call 'detention' hardware; locks from prisons or jails. This lock came from a relatively modern cell door. One of our locksmiths was able to fabricate a key for this lock, and fit a clear plexiglass cover so that we can display it in our shop.

A customer was only in town for two days and needed a key fitted and a lock repaired on this desk. From problem to polished in just one day! The owner was thrilled to see this antique lock restored with a newly crafted guidepost and brass escutcheon.

This coin-operated player piano was too large to bring into the shop. The person who bought it was not given a key to access the mechanism, which they needed to restore it. We were able to fit a key in the field, which allowed the customer to begin their restoration work.

The spring that operates this vintage switchblade broke. It took several attempts, but we were eventually able to fabricate a spring of the appropriate shape and strength. This knife has seen some wear and tear (or at least many, many resharpenings), but is back in action!

A local contractor had retired and was cleaning out his basement. He had heard we could make use of old locks, so he brought us his whole collection! We're always happy to accept door hardware donations so keep us in mind before you throw out that old lock!

We were called out to fix the work of another locksmith who tried to gain access to a customer's house. They left the customer with a hole in their door and no guidance for how to make the door secure. We were able to plug the old holes and install a new deadbolt

We repaired a lock for this customer before by patching it with a brass plate and fitting a key. He later told us that he has 2 other identical locks that he wanted to use the same key. We used the tumblers from the original lock as patterns to fabricate new tumblers and springs.

Sometimes you just need to take a closer look. A customer brought in this vintage microscope case because they needed a key. This isn't the first one of these that we've seen, but it is one of the nicer ones with felt-lined drawers that hold different lenses and accessories.

We came across a unique 1960s era jimmy proof entrance lock that we had to fix a broken spring and some alignment issues to get it back in working order. Fun fact: The first jimmy proof lock was invented in 1916 and is still considered an effective way to secure a door today!

This carved chest was brought in to have a key fit. The customer had it made in Africa but had lost the key and the trunk was locked. He didn't tell us the country where it was made, but we think it must have been a former French colony because the lock was made in France

This customer had been searching for someone to fix their imported French antique locking hardware for years. We were able to drill out the stripped brass in the handles and install custom threaded steel inserts, allowing the hardware to remain in the home for years to come.

An antiques dealer was getting ready for an estate sale and had a drop-front desk he wanted us to open before the sale the following day. When we removed the lock, this was revealed inside! We later fit a 4 pin Corbin key for the lock. - #minneapolislockandkey #antiques
