"The *ban* on assisted dying", as one MSP proposer put it, is perhaps the most contrived exercise in euphemism I've heard in years. Aye, there's an old fashioned word for that... bbc.co.uk/news/scotland

"The Lost Boys" (1987) seems fated for a remake, thus likely joining a catalogue of remakes I outright refuse to watch (because one can't improve upon perfection, viz:— Dr Zhivago; The Wickerman; Rollerball, etc...). That said, surely the original can't be almost 40 !! 😯🙄🧛

Let's just not forget how the Star Wars originally began with a trade standoff...

Just heard a BBC economics correspondent give an entire news briefing in which he referred to the Chancellor throughout as "they". How confusing, particularly for listeners with a first language other than English. Doesn't he know her gender @BBCWorld ? 🙄

Harrison Ford once said of George Lucas's draft screenplay for Star Wars, "You can type this shit, but you can't say it." Sound advice also for lawyers writing up questions / submissions to be delivered orally at court— always try reading it out aloud first (even to your pets)...

BBC Headline: "Trump threatens 200% tariff on alcohol from EU countries" — So, all the, er, good booze, then 🙄

Don't let the fact that Ziggy licks his own nose fool you. He's no idiot. He enjoys watching "doggies on telly" (Crufts), & if you ask him if there are doggies on telly, he'll go & wait in front of the nearest TV set until there are.

Much of the tension in society has at its core the confusion inherent in / between concepts such as "rights", "needs" & "desires", & the question of where to draw the line in terms of legal enforceability. The more that mere desires are pushed, the greater the difficulty... ? 🤔

Scottish advocates owe duties to both the instructing client & the court, where, as members of the country's independent referral bar, this balance is essential to justice....

It is not for us to reject a client's allegations (that's the court's role) unless we know for certain that those allegations are false. This can sometimes draw us into situations where we have to plead a case which is perhaps unlikely yet nonetheless relevant (that's our role).
