Superintendent Dr. Lisa Sayles-Adams testified at the Capitol today in support of a bill by Minneapolis Representative Sencer-Mura aimed at fixing Minnesota's special education tuition billing system. Dr. Sayles-Adams highlighted the burden on district budgets, citing that the current system costs districts like MPS $30 million annually with costs rising by 8 to 9% each year. In her testimony, Sayles-Adams stressed that districts have no control over these bills, which create competition between schools and families, perpetuating inequalities in education. She urged lawmakers to act swiftly to reform the system for the benefit of all students.
