It was a true honor to join Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr., VP Kamala Harris and so many others last week in celebrating Rainbow PUSH and Rev. Jackson’s dedication to the movement.
His foundation and work at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition has brought power and inspiration to people across the country, and his retirement as President of the Coalition reminds us all to honor his dedication to social justice, grassroots organizing, and the power of the people.
Thank you @Netroots Nation for having me last week! I enjoyed being on the EMILY’s List panel to discuss the threat of disinformation with former Florida Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and Misinformation/ Disinformation Expert Jiore Craig. (1/5)
Last week, I also participated in a reading with artist and organizer Colette Payne. Colette’s vulnerable defense of incarcerated women and girls underscores my daily motivations as the Cook County State’s Attorney. (4/5)
Mis/disinformation campaigns are extremely harmful and crowded with targeted, racialized attacks that insidiously discourage women of color from running for office. We must call out this assault on women of color for what it is; otherwise, the propaganda wins. (2/5)
On Monday, I was honored to be invited as a special guest to the inauguration of @Brandon4Chicago. Congratulations to the new Mayor and all the elected officials who were sworn into office. I’m looking forward to working with you to unite our communities and make them safer.
“Our mere presence as women of color, as Black women in cities with large Black populations, and being the first, drew fear and trepidation among those with racist and sexist ideologies who were used to a certain power dynamic." theintercept.com/2023/05/06/…
Kim Gardner is an unapologetic fighter. The attacks on her role mirror the attacks we have seen on prosecutors, particularly Black women prosecutors, across the country. We have not spoken enough about what Black women have had to endure here.
Efficiency is essential in the criminal justice system. By streamlining processes, prosecutors can track and store evidence more effectively. This is a huge improvement that will help limit case delays. chicagotribune.com/investiga…
Thor is a proven leader, tested prosecutor, and cutting-edge legal technology strategist. I am thrilled to have him join my leadership team as we continue to ensure fair and equitable treatment for every Cook County resident.
Last week, I announced that at the conclusion of my term, I will not seek re-election for Cook County State's Attorney. I'm proud of the work we have done to reform the criminal justice system and make our communities safer. I know the work will continue. thetriibe.com/2023/04/cook-c…
Today and every day, I’m proud to support the unions that help fight for the rights of working families across Cook County. We all benefit when workers succeed. #MayDay
As the first Black woman to serve as Cook County State’s Attorney, @kimfoxx has been an advocate for Chicago by disrupting the ways in which the criminal legal system preys upon poor people. Kim has been been a model for how prosecutors can work for their community #ThankYouKim
"But you want to ask me about Jussie?"
Powerful clip of @KimFoxx today speaking of the people who were wrongfully convicted, & her office's work doing first ever mass exonerations. It's also a critique of our body politic's tendency to get easily distracted to say the least.
“If nothing else, I have spent the last six and a half years trying to tell the difficult truth about our criminal justice system, about the prosecutor’s office, about law enforcement and the impact that it has had on communities...” chicagotribune.com/news/crim…
1/2 #ThankYouKim! Chicago is and will always be changed for the better, thanks to @kimfoxx's leadership.
With her bold visions for #publicsafety, Kim has modeled how prosecutors can work for their community AND restore trust in the criminal legal system. 👏🏾
