I have real questions about the Karmelo Anthony sentencing. His parents left the courtroom immediately after the guilty verdict and weren’t even there for sentencing. Now they’re calling the trial a “setup” and saying they’ll appeal. People who attended the entire trial say his guilt was never in doubt. This should be straightforward justice, but here we are with another politicized circus.

I don’t love where the Democratic Party is heading. I often wonder where the old-school Democrats are on so much of what’s happening today. The Republican Party isn’t much different. Both parties are realigning. Democrats sharply left on culture and identity, Republicans right on nationalism and populism. They absorb radicals at the fringes and deal with scandals. Neither side is defined by its worst extremists. These labels of KKK/Nazi/communist are insults being leveled on both sides and rooted in some history, but not literally, IMHO.
