Autumn weekends are Knightmare time! 🔥 Inspired by the BBC's new documentary, Girlbands Forever, and looking back at what it meant to be young and making waves in the 1990s, we're revisiting an old article about Knightmare's moments of girl power. 💃

ALT The sorceress Maldame (Iona Kennedy) looks down scornfully at a contestant in Knightmare Series 8 (1994).
ALT The cavern-elf Elita (Stephanie Hesp) glares at a helmeted dungeoneer in Knightmare Series 6 (1992). Behind her, Skarkill the Goblin Master (Rayner Bourton) prepares his shakles to capture the contestant.
The show had its cheeky and crude moments in this regard. It gave us the blonde Sidriss 'the Confused', later cloned as a 'Bimboid'. We had a troubadour who got into trouble for misbehaving with the ladies. Lord Fear turns his henchman into a barmaid and immediately asks him out!
But Knightmare also gave us formidable female characters - both friend and foe. Some of the best contestants to appear on the show were all-girl teams, and many of the most memorable moments came from them too. All worth celebrating, and our appreciation!
