He makes great jokes but I follow this guy because he’s one of the most intelligent people out there, and he has his finger on the spiritual current of our country. Mixer knows ball and respects Providence. All while being maybe a year or two older than me. My Brother and Captain.
“Millennial Optimism” as it has come to ironically be called is directly correlated with the Fall of Neoliberalism as a coherent ideology and the belief in the End of History.
‘The End of History’ culminated with the election of Barack Obama in 2008. It energized a generation of happy go lucky 20 somethings “finding themselves” in urban misadventures, replicating what they all watched on FRIENDS.
‘“Progress” is inevitable.” They would say. The Progressive Coalition will never lose again. The pluralistic world will be kept safe by multiculturalism and global cooperation.
But just like the cringe stylistic choices of the 2012 urban hipster, the belief itself was a castle made of glass. This generation discovered that there was nothing to actually “find” on their urban quests. The jobs aren’t great and the life isn’t satisfying.
The lifestyle that they were told would bring them happiness was hollowed out and sad.
And the elites who plundered the world in 2008 helped create an environment where pursuing the life that would actually bring them satisfaction would be extremely difficult. But that was the goal.
The traitorous elites had always meant for you to be sardines living in apartments with your friends in a sad city flat.
History goes on though. We saw through the ruse.
