The "virtuous pagan" label is odious. It rests on the prideful assumption that the geniuses of pre-Christian Europe and the Orient would've converted to Christianity. This backward projection onto figures like Plato and Zoroaster is contrary to their teachings and texts.
In as much as the virtuous pagans who preceded Christ point to Him (Plato, Confucius, Buddha, Zoroaster, etc.), they are valuable. But when they become figures worshipped onto themselves, they lose any value they had.

For those who grasp the Mythos, no explanation is needed; for those outside, none will suffice.

Classical Theist, the ideologue who believed Kanye West would save Western Civilization, finally makes a halfway decent prediction—atheism will emerge from the far right.
I have little doubt that next wave of pop atheism will emerge from within the far right

“He wept for the horse”
Nietzsche railed against pity as weakness and then had a nervous breakdown and wept over seeing a horse be whipped in the street. There's never been a greater example of a man incapable of living by the ideology he preached

What is more harmful than any vice?—Practical sympathy for the botched and the weak—Christianity...."
The drama of migration must serve as an appeal to the conscience of the nations of origin of the migrants, which must establish conditions for peace, justice and development. It is also an appeal to the conscience of the transit nations, which are called to protect the vulnerable and not leave them in the hands of criminal networks. It is likewise an appeal to the conscience of Europe, which cannot claim to uphold human dignity while growing accustomed to the Mediterranean and the Atlantic becoming unmarked graves, as well as that of the international community, which is called to effective and persevering cooperation. #ApostolicJourney vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

Here I make the case that the gods of Homer represent something of a failed religious reform, departing from earlier "primitives". I also talk animism, psychology of Jung & Klages, and the theodicy of the Oresteia to help make it. Many important things in... pls enjoi
"Whatever voice the gods once had, whatever remains of it still, must now only be heard as it is forced through the painted image-mask of mankind." A piece on the consequences of the religious developments of Homer: anthropomorphism, personal ego, and the problem of evil.

Otto on Apollo and the Greek spirit. The Apollonian craving for distance and clarity over Dionysiac intoxication and proximity is the purest expression of what the Greeks were, one that happens to flatly contradict the values Christianity would later hold highest.
