1/ Very odd and fishy programme on Panorama this evening focusing mostly on illegal motorbikes masquerading as "E-Bikes". Presented by Adrian Chiles who starts the programme saying he has never ridden an E-Bike before. 🐟
Sales of e-bikes have boomed but some councils and police are struggling to cope Panorama’s E-Bikes: The Battle for Our Streets on @BBCiPlayer now and @BBCOne at 8pm tonight bbc.in/41Z1eSV

I interviewed Chris Boardman about his many careers, including current role at Active Travel England. He told me that fact-free anti-cycling media stories are harming the UK's health as they put off politicians from making brave but necessary decisions. theguardian.com/news/2024/de…

It’s actually a gig economy problem. Let’s tackle that instead yeah?
In a rare outing for our opinion site, I’ve written about why councils seeking to ban bikes from city centres due to delivery bikes are treating it as a “cycling problem” when it’s actually a law enforcement problem - these are mainly electric mopeds. theguardian.com/commentisfre…

In the Netherlands, they've used bus stop bypasses for decades. This is partially why the Dutch cycle 1,108km a year and the English cycle 97km a year. The data on bus stop bypass safety is clear, which is why anti-bus stop bypass campaigners ignore it.

I have written today to @MayorofLondon to again raise my concerns about bus stop bypasses and their impact on access to public transport. I sincerely hope we will see change on the ground - instead of a seemingly unstoppable rollout of inappropriately designed infrastructure.

Seems entirely reasonable. How are we involved in sending weapons to a country that is using them in a “war” on a civilian population?

How hard are the press going after our new government at the minute? Almost like they’re trying to chop their feet out from under them before they get started. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

And - sceptical as I was pre-election about a Keir Starmer government - it’s in all our interests to let governments have space to lead in all our interests and let us judge them later. Let them serve the damn pudding.

I’m at a Labour fringe event about preventative health care where public health minister Andrew Gwynne explained how Chris Whitty told him on his first day that 40% of NHS spending is on preventable illnesses. Fifteen years on it is forecast to be 60%, he said.

Pro tip: The trick to performing an overtake on a £250000 200mph Lamborghini Aventador in central London is to spend 0.1% of the asking price and ride a bike. No slip stream needed Even easier when the Aventador approaches a speed hump as it hits the eye-watering 2mph mark.

20th century urban planning changed the concept of a street from a place to pass time to a place to pass through. 21st century planning is about reversing that mindset and prioritizing people living in a city over cars driving through it. Ferenciek tere, Budapest: 2011 vs 2024.

Correct.
“The super-rich do not spend their money on MPs out of generosity and out of the goodness of their hearts. They want something in return. This wealth is used to buy influence in this House; to get this place to serve their interests and not the interests of our constituents.”

Absolutely. Why was this allowed to drag on so long? It’s clear that coal mines are an industry 50 years out of date and out of step with what we need as a society.
Is it any wonder economic growth is so weak? Seven years, millions in legal fees, a public inquiry; and then this.
