Steht endlich auf!

Als wir in Berlin zur DB-Schulung am Zug abgeholt wurden, positionierten wir uns vorher im ICE im Türbereich, damit es schnell und problemlos klappt. Die anderen Fahrgäste hielten Abstand. Ein paar mit großen Koffern drängte sich in den Freiraum. Ich wies drauf hin, dass das problematisch werden könnte - keine Antwort. Dann war der Ausstieg auf der anderen Seite und der Bahnhofshublift konnte nicht in den Zug geklappt werden, da wir nicht zurücksetzen konnten, denn jetzt war das Paar hinter uns eingeklemmt und musste sich erst befreien. Deren Kommentar: "Wir haben den Rollstuhl nicht gesehen." Kopfschütteln bei den anderen Fahrgästen. Dieser Unsichtbarkeitstrick ist immer wieder faszinierend.

This was a moving Nova tribute I saw beside the Shoes on the Danube memorial in Budapest, in ‘24. This Holocaust memorial is to those Jews shot and left to float down the river by the Nazi allied, Arrow Cross. Shoes were valuable commodities so they were told to take them off.

We went to the Nova exhibition today. On the one hand I am listening to the video testimony of ZAKA talking about decapitated heads in bags and women violated in unspeakable ways and on the other hand I see the complete indifference to any of this from much of the rest of the world. Indifference at best, or denial or at worst, saying that what happened was 'resistance'. Today this completely blew my mind - again. The Nova exhibition was profoundly affecting in so many ways despite already having been immersed in nothing but this for nearly three years. There were many tearful people there. We also heard live testimony from Ariel, the brother of Anita Lisman who was killed with her boyfriend Segev Shushan, at Nova. May their memories be a blessing 🕯️🕯️ Watching all of these atrocities again was heartbreaking and I'm glad that the organisers put it all together so incredibly well. It was in fact the first room of the exhibition which I'll never also forget. It was a film of the Nova rave. People were dancing to trance having the time of their lives. They were my tribe, I've been going to these parties for maybe 25 years. The feeling of dancing to the beats, everyone loving everyone else, being as high as a kite and everything being just perfect. And then a sunrise where everything sparkles and looks beautiful and love and music is all around. There's no feeling like it and then I tried to imagine the horror and the terror descending, people not really understanding what's going on, being terrified whilst still trying to protect each other. I'd only ever seen those party clips on my laptop screen but being there, immersed in those scenes and knowing what was coming for those beautiful people was painful beyond words. And the worst thing is that most of the people I've danced with for years have turned their backs on us and that's something I'll never forgive or ever forget. Everyone needs to see and to understand what happened on 7th October and subsequently. Israel needs to do whatever is needed to make sure that this never happens again, with or without the approval of the rest of the world.

Se escondió en un sótano en Polonia con un hombre que tosía tan fuerte que los alemanes podrían haberlos encontrado solo por el sonido bronquial. Y ahora un chico de una universidad de élite, cuyo mayor trauma en la vida es un café frío de Starbucks, me explica qué significa fascismo. Realmente vivo en tiempos sorprendentes. Hoy la gente habla como si se hubiera tragado accidentalmente una biblioteca universitaria. Nadie dice ya: “Perdón, soy un idiota”. No. Hoy se dice: “Estoy deconstruyendo el relato dominante”. Lo que me asusta es la velocidad con la que la gente normal empieza a actuar como si no pasara nada. El ser humano se adapta increíblemente bien. Incluso cuando a una chica judía le tiran del pelo y a un chico con peotillas le ciegan con luces estroboscópicas. Nos acostumbramos a todo. A la guerra. Al odio. A que el café cueste nueve dólares. A esto último, por cierto, solo con mucha dificultad. Por la noche estaba en la cama pensando: quizá habría que no darle tiempo libre a la humanidad. Porque en cuanto la gente se aburre, o intenta salvar el mundo, o se mata entre sí, o graba podcasts sobre los beneficios del conflicto.
