III. Xolotl
In Aztec mythology, Xolotl is the dog-headed god of fire, lightning, deformities, twins, and death — the dark mirror of his twin brother Quetzalcóatl, the feathered serpent, and the two are inseparable in the cosmological structure. Where Quetzalcóatl is the morning star, Xolotl is the evening star, the one who goes where his brother cannot. Unlike Apep, who waits each night to swallow Ra’s solar barque whole, Xolotl accompanies the sun into the underworld, guarding it through the darkness and helping it return at dawn. He is the patron of what is doubled, deformed, and other.
