Cough syrups to no longer be sold over the counter in India. The Centre has amended the Drugs Rules, 1945 to remove “Syrups” from the Schedule K exemption for household cough remedies. The change means cough syrups will now fall outside the exemption available to cough lozenges, pills and tablets.
