BLACK-BAND PROTEST Graduating students of Ateneo de Manila University are set to wear black bands during commencement rites from June 19 to 21 and join a walkout on Friday, June 19, in solidarity with the families of Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili, whose deaths have sparked calls for transparency, accountability and justice. In a statement posted Thursday, June 18, the Ateneo Seniors’ Alliance urged members of the Class of 2026 to wear black bands on their right wrists and join a community walkout after the commencement rites, saying the community “cannot act as if everything is normal” amid lingering questions over the university’s response to the tragedy.
