The reason why developed nations are hyper-individualistic and poor nations more community-driven is that the state and market replace family and community as the sole caretakers of individuals. Previously you had to do the bidding of family and communities; now you have to work for the state and market. The biggest benefactors of this replacement are mostly young women, who were considered property in most communities around the world and who get liberated and gain autonomy as individuals under the rule of the state and market.
