The East St. Louis native chose KSU because she believed in Coach Johnson and found a home with the Thorobreds.
From neighbors and classmates to husband and wife, James '72 and Artie Atkin are proud Kentucky State alumni who continue to give back to their alma mater.
James serves as Mayor of Danville, KY, and Artie is a retired educator and superintendent.
Artie Atkin earned not one, but two degrees from Kentucky State, completing her Business and Accounting degree in 1975 and her Business Education degree in 1982

When doctors said she might never walk again, Kayla-Jonae Williams chose to keep moving forward.
After surviving a spinal cord stroke in 2023, Williams completed her degree in Mass Communication & Journalism, returning to campus & crossing the Commencement stage in Spr 26.

In addition to the main campus, Benson Farm is now also closed due to a potential threat to campus safety. Leave calmly and immediately unless directed otherwise by law enforcement or University officials.
Employees at Benson Farm may enter main campus only to retrieve their vehicles. Buildings may not be entered. Do not come to campus or Benson Farm until further notice.

Kentucky State University is closing its main campus immediately based on recommendations from local law enforcement regarding a potential threat to campus safety.
Out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of the safety of our campus community, all faculty, staff, & students on the main campus should leave immediately and calmly, unless otherwise directed by law enforcement or KSU officials.
Faculty & staff should resume work remotely where possible.
This closure does not currently impact activity at the Benson Farm.
Please avoid coming to the main campus until further notice. Updates will be shared through official University communication channels.

KSU student Sienna Stewart earned the 2026 KentuckyView Undergraduate Fellowship for research exploring how ancient terrace farming practices used in Peru could help Eastern Kentucky farmers address erosion, flooding, and drought.
