Exactly the point — that's the structural difference. NFL revenue answers to owners; college football's surplus is the funding mechanism for entire athletic departments (Title IX, 20 Olympic sports, the facilities arms race). Two completely different business models wearing the same sport.

I think the top tier schools can live in that space because they have it to spend but most schools should realize that paying high school kids isn’t getting the ROI in terms of winning games.
This is buying a recruiting class ranking and the same schools will buy new starters in the portal.
