Hearing that there is a bit of an organised pushback to the speed changes as part of Katoa ka ora. These look really good - make lots of sense and should make our neighborhoods a much nicer place to be in. Feedback at haveyoursay.at.govt.nz/kko/m…
ALT A map showing the proposed changes with a large area of Puketāpapa local board area slated to be 30 km/h zones
I live in hope that this will become more well-understood! Billions on a few highways will make traffic worse and will create additional problems! We can do better. stuff.co.nz/environment/clim…
👏🏻 successive research into the transport needs of those most disadvantaged in society find time and again that ALMOST ALL WISH they could get places without the huge cost drain of owning a car. They’re choosing between car and other essentials instead.
What if we designed cities, and the land-uses, densities and infrastructure that make them what they are, so that daily activity and exercise was just an ordinary, “invisible” part of every day life?
It’s actually not that hard. You just have to change priorities. #HealthyCities
Pic 1 - Nationals vision for all of NZs state highways. With ∞ additional lanes planned.
Pic 2 - Resulting carnage on local roads, AT/local councils' problem.
Pic 3 - Who cares

We can’t solve climate change with the same systems & thinking that got us here in the first place.
When turning to Indigenous, disabled, and other frontline communities for solutions, remember that these are not going to look like Western solutions.
That’s the point.
Join us at the @CodeforAus Open House and see how we're solving important problems in the public sector with HCD and tech! You'll hear about tackling racism, housing for the homeless, and making government open source.
